Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family children who would grow up with them eventually. She learned young how to overcome of the difficulties she faced by using her rich and vibrant imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she could read and write. Her first guitar was given to her at the age of eighteen. The singer began her singing career at a Knoxville Tenn station by the age of 11. In the same time, Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. The singer established a name in the local scene while in high school but she wanted to perform on a larger stage. She moved to Nashville shortly after her graduation in 1964. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his syndicated television show. Parton accepted the role in the year 1966. She she joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974 after her own hits like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene outsold the collaborations. Following their breakup, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it reached No. Its first appearance at the top spot was in 1974.
