Lee Roy Selmon blends the merits of football scholarship in his family with the benefits of community service. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In football, he was with his three brothers in Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi award as the best lineman in the country. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. Also, they won the national title twice. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975, and was selected as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Fourth service In the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours every week for volunteer activities. He settled down in Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. His career in business began. He was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the most prominent young men in the country. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as an athlete, was captain of his team throughout 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993, as Associate Director of Sports. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame through The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
